School Days

Lily and Harrison are learning so much this year!  It's fun when they can show off what they are learning and doing on a regular basis.

Lily has had several creative projects to complete in class.  She gave a report on Rosa Parks in a wax museum exhibit.  Each child had to research and write about their chosen person, and dress up as that person.  Parents and other classes were invited to the classroom where the students were positioned around the room with a "press play" button on their arm.  When someone came up and pressed their button, the kids began speaking.  Lily, and all of her classmates did a wonderful job!

Lily also had to pair up with a friend for another project, this time for a Market Day event.  The teams had to create a product or a service, make a commercial persuading others to buy their product, and sell their product to shoppers at Eichhorn Mall (classroom).  Lily and Brooke decided to design and make jewelry.  The name of their store was Crashin Fashion and it was a hit!  They quickly ran out of merchandise even though they had made several bracelets and necklaces.  Lily's partner was not at school on shopping day, so Lily was in charge. I was very impressed because on the fly she let children who were still waiting in line use her extra beads and string to make their own necklaces or bracelets, and then sold even more. One smart cookie!

Once again we attended the St. Francis Preschool art show.  Each student had several pieces included in the event.  Harrison was proud to show us his work.

We attended the second grade choir concert this week.  It was focused on Sound, a grade level science unit.  Each student had to make their own instrument and play them as they entered the stage. We learned all about pitch, volume, sound vibrations, etc. through each song that they performed.  Great job, Lily!

And when the kids aren't in school, they sometimes like to play school! Here's Harrison finding words that begin with L and completing some math facts.

Starting the school day with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Story time.

Both kids have been blessed with amazing teachers this year.  We are so proud of all that they are learning.  Keep up the good work, Lily and Harrison.
