Checking out her new wheels.
Harrison wanted a turn, but wasn't impressed when he couldn't make it go.
Trying it out.
Lily chose chocolate donuts for her special birthday breakfast.
Justin is such a great dad that he decided to take the morning off from work so we could celebrate with Lily. The four of us headed out to the Children's Museum (at Lily's request) and then to Chick-Fil-A for lunch. We stopped at Party City to get a birthday balloon before Daddy headed back to work.
Lily had several important phone calls from family wishing her a happy birthday. She was excited to talk to everyone.
After dinner, we had cupcakes and opened the rest of her gifts. She'd squeal, "ooh, just what I wanted" after opening each gift. She was so grateful and thanked us (unprompted) for everything. Very reluctantly Lily allowed us to give her four very gentle spanks and a pinch to grow an inch before bedtime. She wanted to make sure she would grow this year.
The day before her birthday, Uncle Matthew came to have lunch with us and to play with the kids for awhile. Harrison was a bit shy at first, but warmed up. Lily talked about Matthew all day long. Uncle Matthew is my favorite, Uncle Matthew is so funny, Uncle Matthew is the best, Uncle Matthew plays with me...I guess we need to take advantage of more play time with him before he leaves for college in August.
Lily had a great time building towers with Matthew, while Harrison had a great time knocking them down.
Matthew read books to Lily, and then the two created a game of throwing her new shirt over each others heads before he went home.
The Sunday after her birthday was the party! We had a combined party theme of princesses (a Cinderella cake, princess balloons, and napkins) and a fair (a magician/juggler, and food you find at a fair--cotton candy, popcorn, and apples). I think everyone enjoyed the magician and the food. Hopefully the kids didn't go home too wired! Here are some pictures from our party.
Ready and waiting for our guests to arrive.
Snacks before the magic show.

This is how Harrison entertained himself while Lily opened her gifts.
Happy Birthday to our sweetest 4-year old. We love you so much and can't wait to see what joy this year brings.
